New Thai Restaurant Spices Up Mound!

On February 4, Mound received its newest restaurant in the form of Lovy Thai Cuisine. Located at 2330 Wilshire Blvd, in the Stonegate Plaza shopping development, Lovy Thai is a long awaited arrival for the residents of the west lake area!

Following the closure of Daruma Hibachi & Sushi last year, and somewhat disappointing results from new owners at Spring Park’s Asian Bistro, my girlfriend and I have been eagerly awaiting the newest asian establishment in the area. Having grown up in Navarre, we were excited at the potential prospect of a restaurant that isn’t American or Mexican. Don’t get me wrong we love those as well but, when looking west of Wayzata, the options quickly get thin!

On Friday, February 6, we decided to take our date night at Lovy Thai and give them a shot. What we discovered was far from a disappointment! Despite arriving around 8pm, we found full tables and chattering guests. After being seated, we talked with other diners and got nothing but positive feedback on what they’d been eating. After reviewing the, somewhat extensive, menu we made our orders. Bri got beef Pad Thai and I got red curry with chicken. As a huge curry lover, I always fear that my expectations are too high. However, Lovy Thai served up some of the best curry I’ve had anywhere outside Minneapolis. Their blend of coconut curry made for a sweet & spicy meal which had me quite literally scraping the bowl for leftovers. Meanwhile, Bri’s beef Pad Thai noodles were cooked to perfection and the veggies had a wonderful crunch to them.

Each item, priced at $15, lands on the medium-high end of the menu’s spectrum. While we came with big appetites and finished our food, we noticed most people left with to-go containers, suggesting the average guest could easily make two meals from their evening’s order. The only “issue” we noticed was that the restaurant itself is virtually unchanged from its predecessor, Daruma Hibachi & Sushi. While Daruma was a well designed and chic eatery that lent a feeling of quality to the establishment we hope that, in the coming months, the Lovy Thai owners will reinvest some of their earnings in making alterations to the store, so that they might better utilize its space. This hope is especially directed toward the bar area which was designed around making sushi and, currently, appears to be entirely unused.

In summary, we’ll be returning soon with friends and family in tow for another taste of the menu. For summertime lake goers, we feel that this is a restaurant which is as easily accessed by boat via Lost Lake as is Carbone’s Pizza, Surfside Grill, or any other eateries in downtown Mound. Whether a fan of Chinese, Thai, Indian, or otherwise, we feel they’ll have something that’s right up your alley.

Lovy Thai, we wish you the best and for many years of successful enterprise!
