Minnetonka Wins the State!
On January 30, the Minnetonka Minute was placed FIRST among the top 10 entries across Minnesota. This is a feather in our cap which we’re excited to share with the community! The folks at the Minnesota Digital Library have been both incredibly supportive and pleasant to work with in bringing this project to publication! The Minnetonka Minute’s victory shines a spotlight on Lake Minnetonka and its rich history as a powerhouse among Minnesota locales.
In November, 2025, the Minnesota Digital Library, a branch of MNHS, hosted a state-wide creative writing competition in which they asked authors to use any image from their online collection to inspire a creative article surrounding the chosen image.
We chose to use an image of the Twin City Rapid Transit Company’s steam ferries which carried tourists to & from the Big Island Amusement Park. Ours is a 750 word story which, while fictional, is peppered with genuine fact, detail, and historical accuracies which make it a highly plausible tale. One that could have easily occurred during the Big Island Park’s operation between 1906 - 1911.
Please enjoy our article and the other 9 winners from across the state!
