A Tribute in Bricks!

During a recent visit to the Wayzata Depot Museum, I was thrilled to learn about a unique local project: a newly completed LEGO model of the Shirley Hills School building in Mound.

Lovingly built by local resident David Schmieding, this detailed replica is constructed entirely from vintage LEGO bricks and built at 1/37th scale of the original 370-foot-long school. David dedicated over 170 hours to researching and constructing the model—realizing a lifelong dream that had been decades in the making.

We're grateful to David for sharing this remarkable piece of local history, reimagined in miniature, and for letting us pass it along to others who may appreciate the craftsmanship and heart behind it.
